Mike Shuter, president of Shuter Sunset Farms in Frankton, has 180 acres devoted to buckwheat seed, which he plans to use as a cover crop after the fall harvest. Shuter and other Indiana farmers are utilizing cover crops more than ever, with the Indiana State Department of Agriculture reporting an estimated 1.5 million acres of farmland being used for that purpose in the last year.
